A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
South Korea is the only East Asian country that designates Christmas as a national holiday. Schools, government offices, and businesses are all closed on Christmas Day. For non-Christians, this is a holiday for shopping, outings, and parties. Unlike other Korean holidays, there are no obligations for family-centered activities. Children associate Christmas with Santa haraboji (Grandpa Santa) and his gifts. For Korean Christians, Christmas is primarily a religious holiday with church services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Caroling is also popular on Christmas Eve. Non-Christian family members and friends are more likely to accept invitations to go to church for Christmas services.
Pray for churches and Christians in Korea to be beacons of the light of Jesus for the lost. Pray non-Christians attending Christmas services will hear and receive the gospel.
