A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
National Liberation Day commemorates the end of Japanese occupation on the Korean Peninsula on August 15, 1945. It is the only Korean holiday that is celebrated in both North and South Korea. In South Korea it is known as Gwangbokjeol (“Restoration of Light Day”) and was officially designated a public holiday in 1949. All buildings and homes are encouraged to display the national flag, Taegukgi. The Gwangbokjeol song is sung at official ceremonies in remembrance of the blood shed for this liberty and in exhortation to guard it. In honor of the independence activists, their descendants can visit most public museums as well as ride public transport and intercity trains free of charge. Praise God for religious freedom in South Korea.
Pray Koreans will be free in Christ and not be enslaved to materialism and secularism.
