A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
During August, in the lull just before harvest, Nosu people also gather with family and neighbors to celebrate their Torch Festival. The holiday commemorates an ancient Nosu hero who drove away a plague of locusts using torches made from pine. The celebration includes horse races and bullfights, wrestling for men, and beauty contests for young women. During the Torch Festival, families need to light torches to illuminate the corners in their rooms as well as their fields. Some villagers have torch parades for the purpose of driving away bad luck and praying for a good harvest. This holiday provides a wonderful opportunity for Nosu Christians to return home and share their faith in Christ.
Pray Nosu Christians will be sensitive and bold to share the gospel, and that God will soften family members’ hearts to hear and receive the Good News with joy.
