A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples

Every June 24 on the lunar calendar, the Yi people celebrate their biggest and most exciting holiday, the Torch Festival. For three to five days, most people sing, dance, and enjoy meals with family, friends, and neighbors. Some participate in bullfights or friendly wrestling events. The culmination of the main day of the festival involves lighting large torches and dancing in the streets. Witchdoctors play a major role, which may involve sacrifices, chants, and trying to appease the spirits that they believe are affecting all areas of the people’s lives. The Torch Festival is a time of celebration but also a time to offer praise to these spirits.

Pray the Yi people will know the truth about Christ and worship him alone. Pray that one day their singing, dancing, and fellowship will be because of their love of the one true God.
