A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
Several years ago, I took a taxi from the airport to the downtown area of a large city in southwest China. At a stoplight I saw an ox pulling a cart on the right side of the road. The driver of the cart waved to us and smiled. On the left-hand side I saw a Mercedes Benz. Its driver seemed preoccupied and did not notice us. In 2019, I was in a taxi in the same location. It had become nearly impossible to drive an ox cart there due to the large numbers of expensive cars on the roads and the increased amount of people who accompanied the towering new buildings. No one waved or smiled at us.
Pray the Lord will slow the pace at which people are chasing material gain and bring peace and joy to the people of these changing East Asian cities.
