A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
In 2016, China lifted its one-child policy, but in 2018, births in China dropped to its lowest level in almost sixty years. It seems the country’s shift to allow more births has not reversed the slower birthrate. Young couples struggle with the cost of raising children, especially in larger cities, and educated women are delaying childbirth to pursue careers. Some young Christian parents follow traditions of expecting their parents to help raise their grandchildren so that they can invest in their work. Leaving children with non-Christian grandparents, they go to other cities to provide for their child’s future.
Pray Christians will see the need to raise up their children to love and follow God. Pray they will break free from thinking that their work is the primary means to provide for their children.
