A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
Respect for the Aged Day is celebrated on the third Monday of September each year. This national holiday was established in 1966 as a day to honor the contributions of elderly citizens to family and society. The roots of this holiday go much deeper than the history of the day might suggest, as honoring the elderly is deeply engrained in Japanese culture. The Japanese media is filled with programs dedicated to honoring the elderly throughout the day. They interview some of the oldest citizens of the nation, and the Japanese government gives a silver cup to each person who reaches the age of one hundred. Japan is the most rapidly aging society in the world.
Pray many will hear of Jesus, offer their hearts to him, and come to our loving Father before their time on this earth draws to a close.
