Everyday Prayer for East Asia People
Day 14
My first thoughts upon entering Xinjiang Province was that everything seemed different—the architecture, music, language, food, and faces of the people. Was I still in China? Xinjiang is home to the Uyghur (“We-ger”) people, one of China’s Muslim minorities. The Uyghurs account for half of the population in this area of northwest China, but Uyghurs live in cities throughout the country, often running restaurants that sell traditional foods like flatbread, lamb kebobs, and noodles. Their faith has come under attack—mosques are being forced to close, and people are being detained and sent away to camps. When they feel abandoned, may they know God has not forgotten them. As they face times of deep despair, pray they will know the light has come, and his name is Jesus. Pray Uyghurs will turn to and trust in him and display his glory.
