Day of Prayer and Fasting— Merit-Based Works

Pride, self-reliance, and merit-based works all stand in the way of salvation. East Asians think they are happy because they have reached a level of success. They believe they can control their thoughts and obtain enlightenment, offer a sacrifice and have their sins forgiven, climb a mountain and be born again, or do more good than bad and all will be okay. Dialoguing about who God is and what he has prepared for East Asians is a great start for them to question exactly what they believe.

Pray Christians in East Asia will joyfully, carefully, and clearly communicate that joy, peace, forgiveness, and salvation are freely available because of Jesus. Pray people will give up meritbased methods and surrender to the one who has already paid the price. “‘Come, let us discuss this,’ says the Lord” (Isaiah 1:18).
