A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
Day of Prayer and Fasting— Ancestor Worship
Micah promises that someone whose origins are in the distant past will come as the source of true peace (Micah 5:2,5). Appeasing spirits or worshiping, praying to, and asking ancestors for help will never bring peace. Only Jesus brings trues peace. In East Asia, the custom of worshiping ancestors is passed down from generation to generation. Christians do not participate in this, which strikes at the heart of a good Chinese, Korean, or Japanese son or daughter. It is very shameful to parents if their child becomes a Christian, because the child will not worship their parents when they die. These customs are a significant stronghold in East Asia.
Pray for freedom from this generational burden. Ask God to tear down this barrier and open the eyes of East Asians to see that he is our refuge, strength, and help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
