A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
The Yi are China’s seventh-largest ethnic minority group with nine million people. They live primarily in mountainous areas of the rural southwest. Most Yi believe they came from the same ancestor. Like many minority people groups, the Yi are accomplished musicians, and have several festivals and traditions that draw tourists to their area. Their traditional religious belief is a form of animism, which means they worship many deities and spirits, though some Christians exist in different subgroups. Most Yi believe that angry gods cause storms and bad spirits cause sickness and crop failure. They also worship ancestors.
Pray the Yi will know the God who calms storms, raises the dead, and gives new life. Pray for churches in their language to dot the mountains where the Yi live, offering them a chance to hear, believe, and begin to really live.
