A Prayer a Day for East Asian Peoples
October 10, or “Double Ten,” is Taiwan’s National Day. It commemorates the start of an uprising in China that led to the end of the ruling Qing Dynasty and established the Chinese republic. This day may be celebrated by military parades in Taipei, fireworks, and speeches, with the Taiwanese flag prominently displayed on many main streets. It is a time to shop and enjoy time off from work. As a democracy, religious beliefs are not restricted. Christianity has been in Taiwan for over 150 years, yet the number of Christians—including Protestants and Catholics—is only 7.1 percent of the entire population.
Pray Taiwanese people will celebrate what Jesus has done for them. Pray Christians will always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks them to give the reason for the hope that they have (I Peter 3:15).
